Ridge caps normally last 12-14 years before needing replacement.
This is due to the quality of the material used to make them and they do weather faster than the rest of the roof. Ridge caps will cover 20 linear feet per bundle.
The 5/8 medium flat cedar shakes normally last 20-25 years depending on the quality of the past roof maintenance, and of the shakes that were used by the builder. If your roof has not been properly maintained on a regular basis, then you will notice more repairs in this area. Please take a look at the enclosed pictures to get a better understanding about ridge caps and the 5/8 medium shakes that we replace.
Note: on cedar shake roofs that have a lot of moss, fungus, and/or debris or have not been cleaned for a longer period of time, there could be some additional repairs to the 5/8 medium shake area of the roof. Also, the sunny side of a foor will have more repairs after the cleaning, due to dryness. The ridge cap replacement estimate is an exact count.
One bundle of 5/8 medium shakes contains 30-35 pieces, but normally only 25-30 pieces are of a quality to meet our high roof repair standards. Western Exterior Maintenance charges per bundle for labor, material and the hauling away of debris the following amounts:P $145 per bundle for 5/8 medium shakes & $120 per bundle for Cedar Ridge Caps.
Please note on 7-12 pitch or steeper roofs Western Exterior Maintenance will have increased pricing as follows: $185 per bundle for 5/8 medium shakes & $150 per bundle for Cedar Ridge Caps.
