Cleaning Methods
Western Exterior Maintenance uses 2 very safe and effective methods to clean your cedar shake roof.
Low Pressure Water Washing & Color Treatment

Low Pressure Water Washing has been preferred method for the last 50 years for cleaning roofs newer than 16 years. This method, used by Certified Roof Cleaners, removes the moss and fungus growth to reach a nice, new, clean wood surface without damaging any of the shakes or taking any life off the roof.

Once the cleaning is completed, we apply a non-toxic product called Attco Shakelast Color Roof Treatment to keep the moss and fungus from returning for up to 4 - 5 years. This method will extend the life of your roof by 8 - 10 years.

Air Cleaning & UV Treatment
|
|
For cedar shake roofs older than 16 years, we start by air cleaning the roof surface to remove the debris. That enables us to then spray on a clear, non-toxic treatment called Weatherguard UV.
|
|
We soak the roof, then over the next 8-12 months, as it rains on and off, it triggers a cleaning reaction that will leach off and remove the algae growth and fungus that is on your roof. No washing needed. Eventually, over time, your roof will turn a silver gray color to finish up the process. This will last 5 years and is then repeated.
